4 Tips for Surviving the 1st Trimester
I remember when I was pregnant with Ace I pretty much had the exact same symptoms: nausea, exhaustion, and absolutely no motivation to do anything. I was also still trying to eat healthier, but that quickly changed when I could only stomach straight carbs.
This time around I just accepted that I need to eat, so I don’t whither away and that after these few weeks, I’ll circle back and focus on real, whole, and nutritious foods. I’m 12 weeks now and I can actually cook a meal without wanting to puke. I can actually eat something that hasn’t been processed to its death lol!
Tips for surviving the 1st trimester:
Accept that it is a period of time where we just have to do what we can to survive, especially if you already have other children or have to get up and go to work. It’s important to give our bodies some type of food for energy!
Honor your cravings, but try not to go overboard. There was one day I went through Mickey D’s and got some fries (that just hit differently during the 1st trimester) and then immediately regretted that I didn’t get a fountain Dr. Pepper… I ended up getting one and it was arguably the best Dr. Pepper I’ve ever had. I could have easily had one of those every time we went out to eat, but I knew that I wouldn’t feel the greatest after, so that was something I still drank, but also limited myself.
Get the rest while you can. Don’t push yourself to the limits. Your body is working hard to build that placenta for your baby and it’s important to not go overboard.
Take your prenatal or supplements. I definitely did not do great at this and wish I would have done better. Especially, when our diet isn’t as nutrient-dense it’s important that we are still providing our body and baby with the nutrients that it needs. There are lots of options out there if you are struggling to keep pills down send me a message and we can work together to find something that works for you!
These aren’t anything revolutionary, but sometimes we just need little reminders that it’s okay to just survive during certain seasons :)
